A course of writing icons in Slovakia
A course of writing icons was held on February 3 – 9, 2017 at the monastery in Vranov, Slovakia,
in Romania. The course was attended by three sisters of the Vranov monastery, three sisters from Kežmarok (Slovakia) and some lay persons who write icons, among them Fr. Robert Demko, who has painted icons on the walls of the refectory in the Vranov monastery. The Slovak sisters from Dublin, Sr. Alena and Sr. Maria, helped as translators and tutors, as they have had a lot of practice in this work. A week of intense work, prayer and study was crowned by a solemn blessing of the newly written icons by Archbishop Jan Babjak SJ, who appreciated that work and encouraged all to continue. All the participants are grateful to God for this gift, for the opportunity to meet the sisters coming from three redemptoristine monasteries and for the sisterly collaboration. Writing icons create a possibility to enter into a deeper understanding of being a “living memory” of Christ. May the Holy Spirit transform us always more into living icons of the Redeemer.
